Greetings from Mr. Karsten,

We have had a wonderful first few months of school within the middle school.  As your child’s school counselor I help support students in a variety of ways, including individual support, small group support and leading the middle school advisory program, Scorpion Talk.  This month I would like to focus on our Scorpion Talk class which provides social emotional learning to every student in middle school, grades 6-8

Middle School Scorpion Talk Update

Some really great things are happening within your child’s Scorpion Talk Time. Scorpion Talk meets every Tuesday morning from 7:50-8:10.

This section will be devoted to giving you updates on lessons.  Each grade level is working through a unit called “Mindsets and Goals.”  Students in each grade cover different lessons that are built into the curriculum.  I would encourage you to have a dialogue with your child regarding any/all of the topics listed.

New Student Ambassador Program: Service Leadership Group - We have 51 New Student Ambassadors in grades 6-8 to help support our new students and their families.  The goal of this program is two-fold:

  • Provide a service-leadership opportunity for returning DEMS students who would like to support the transition of New Students to DEMS

  • Provide additional transitional support to New Students as they come to DEMS.  The focus of this support is student led and driven

This group has worked hard to help support our new students and continue to develop our program to support our new families to our community.
